BURGUNDY WEEKEND 2018

BEIJING

During the first weekend of December, Muyi Fine Wines organised the third annual Burgundy Weekend in Beijing.

Over the course of three days, three domains and the Wine Advocate’s William Kelley presented a series of tastings and dinners.

First up was a dinner looking at Cecile Tremblay and Domaine Lamy Caillat’s wines. Held at the Peninsula’s Jing Restaurant, chef Julien Cadiou and Manager Martin Vanackere orchestrated a superb menu to match the wines served during the evening. Highlights were the 2011 Chambolle Musigny Feusselottes and incredibly youthful 2010 Chapelle Chambertin.

The next day, started with a masterclass given by Sebastien Caillat and moderated by William Kelley. Allowing guests to taste Lamy Caillat wines from the 2012 vintage up to the 2015, this was a fascinating insight into the evolution of what is currently one of Burgundy’s greatest white wine domaines.

A second masterclass compared the three wines that both Domaines Cecile Tremblay and Mugneret Gibourg produce: Vosne Romanee, Chambolle Feusselottes and Echezeaux. Tasting them in the 2010 vintage was a unique opportunity, as it really showcased the differences in approaching vinification, even on parcels that are literally next to one another as is the case with Feusselottes.

To end the day, a Paulee-style dinner was held at the Georg. With the winemakers sharing jeroboams and guests having brought wines from their cellars, this was an evening of generosity, warmth and most importantly lots of great wine!

After a bit of rest on Sunday, the final event of the weekend’s programme was a dinner looking at the wines of Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg. Not only are these wines some of the most exciting and sensual in all of Burgundy, the family behind them is equally generous and warm. This dinner featured not only a superb menu by chef Julien Cadiou, but also a series of wines that were mind-blowing, culminating in the majestic Clos Vougeot from the 2012 vintage.

All in all, this was a weekend that we won’t forget all that soon! Great people shared great wines and we look forward to next year’s events already!
